Overview
Most classrooms on campus allow you to bring in a personal laptop and display it on the projector. In order to do this, your laptop must have one of 3 connection types, HDMI, VGA, or USB-C.
Not all rooms have the same capabilities, but the majority of classrooms will have HDMI and VGA, with more modern classrooms having HDMI and USB-C. There are still some classrooms on campus that are only capable of using VGA.
If you need to be connected to the campus WiFi while using it in this classroom, check out these instructions on how to connect various devices to campus WiFi.
1. Select your port
The first step is to determine what kind of ports your laptop has. Look at the sides of the back and see if you there are any of these ports.

2. Plug in the cable
Next, at the lectern, find the cable that works with your device. The cables will either be loose coming out of the desk, or they will be in the control-panel's cubby if the room has one. The cables can come in a variety of sizes and colors, but the connectors will always be the same.

If your device has both HDMI and VGA, use HDMI
- Not all USB-C ports are capable of outputting video
- VGA connectors are video-only, to send audio as well, most rooms will also have a provided AUX cable that works on the VGA input
3. Change the input on the A/V control panel
On the classroom's A/V control panel, select the laptop input.

Troubleshooting
ISSUE: There is no video from the laptop
Solution 1: Confirm you have turned on the classroom display and have selected the laptop input on the classroom's A/V control panel and that the cables are firmly plugged into your device
Solution 2: Make sure the display settings are correct on your device

ISSUE: There is no sound from the laptop
If using VGA: Make sure you have connected the AUX cable to your device if the classroom is equipped with one
Solution 1: Confirm the volume is un-muted and turned up on the classroom's A/V control panel
Solution 2: Make sure the volume is un-muted and turned up (preferably to the max) on your device
ISSUE: There are no cables in this classroom/the cable I need is not available
No cables?: There are some classrooms that require you to bring your own cables to connect to the A/V. If this is the case, the ports will be on the A/V rack, near the control-panel. If not, the classroom you are in may not be capable of connecting a laptop
Cable you need not available?: We apologize for the inconvenience, please email ITSupport@sunybroome.edu. ITS may be able to install the cable you need in the future, or possibly give a recommendation on an adapter that you could purchase.
