Overview
Most classrooms on campus are controlled by Extron control panels in order to streamline the user experience. This article focuses on the older style button panels, likely still the most common control system that you will see across campus. These can be mounted in a variety of ways, such as on the lectern itself or on the A/V rack on the wall. Some of these button panels will also include controls for the DVD/Blu-Ray player.
User Control
Part 1: Controlling Display Power
On the top-left side of the control panel, you will see the DISPLAY CONTROLS. There will be a separate button for ON and OFF and they will illuminate to indicate the current state of the display.

To turn the display power on or off, you simply press the button with the desired action.
After pressing the button, the system will send the command to the display, and the button will flash for approximately 30 seconds while the action is completed. Once the device is in the desired state, the relevant button will light up.
***Please remember to turn the display off once you are done using it. Leaving them on when not in use drastically reduces the lifespan of the display***
Part 2: Selecting an Input
The 4 vertically-aligned buttons on the right of the control panel are the input buttons. The button that is currently illuminated indicates which input is being shown on the display. The specific available inputs and the order in which they are in differs from classroom to classroom, so make sure you pay attention to the text on the button.

To select your input, simply press the button labelled with the input you desire. The system will then automatically swap to that input and the button will become illuminated.
***In some rooms, there will be one single button labelled "LAPTOP" when pressed, it will illuminate red or green, changing between HDMI and VGA (or USB-C) respectively***

Part 3: Volume Control
The knob on the control panel is the volume control knob. Directly to the left of the knob are a set of 5 lights that indicate the approximate volume level. The red light indicating that the volume is set at it's maximum level.

To control the volume, turn the volume to the right to increase volume, and to the left to decrease volume.
***This volume know can occasionally be very slow to respond, so be patient with it, if there is no change in volume,
try turning the knob left and right a few times to make it sync up with the system***

ISSUE: The display is powered on, but states no signal
Solution: Please do not attempt to manually change the input or unplug anything. Contact ITS immediately at ext. 5011, email ITSupport@sunybroome.edu, or submit a CSR.
ISSUE: The desired input is illuminated, but it is not showing on the display
Solution: Press the desired input button anyway, the control panel and the switcher occasionally go out of sync. Alternatively, check to confirm that the desired input device is powered on.
ISSUE: There is no sound
Solution: Confirm that the volume on the device is not muted or turned down. The volume should generally be set to max on the device.
ISSUE: There IS sound, but the volume control knob is not working
Solution: Turn the volume knob up to max, sometimes devices come through the system at a very low volume and cannot be heard if the knob is set too low. Alternatively, turn the volume knob left and right a few times, occasionally the system loses sync with the knob.
If any of these troubleshooting steps do not solve your problem, please submit a CSR. If the issue is urgent, contact ITS immediately at ext. 5011, or email ITSupport@sunybroome.edu.
