Overview
This article will walk users through the set up of the Microsoft Authenticator on their mobile device. SUNY Broome encourages the use of this authentication method for users' school provided Microsoft accounts.
Set up Microsoft Authenticator
Step 1: Open any web browser
Navigate to the Microsoft Office Portal and log in using your SUNY Broome email address.

Step 2: More information required
You will then be prompted that our organization requires two factor authentication to sign in to Microsoft, select "Next".

Step 3: Select the Microsoft Authenticator
The webpage will state that the user should get the Microsoft Authenticator application on their mobile device, select "Next"

Step 4: Get the Microsoft Authenticator Mobile Application
Go to the Microsoft Support Page for Downloading Microsoft Authenticator and scan the QR code for your respective mobile device.

Step 5: Set up your Microsoft Authenticator account
After downloading the authenticator, the next page states that the user should allow prompts from the Microsoft Authenticator application on their mobile device, and to select "work or school account"

Step 6: Scan the QR code
The page will display a QR code unique to them. Scan it with the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app and select "Next"
Do not scan the QR code in the below screenshot.

Step 7: Test the authenticator
The website will prompt the user's mobile device to type in a code that appears on their computer screen. You will get a notification from the Microsoft Athenticator on your device. Open the notification and type the number displayed. In the case of this example we input 24 on our mobile device.

Success!
After inputting the number correctly and entering your phone pass code or biometrics, the website will display that the notification is approved. You have now have successfully set up your Microsoft Authenticator.
Select "Next"

Select "Done"

In the future, upon logging in to any Microsoft site or application with your school account, you will be prompted to authenticate with your Microsoft Authenticator.
